Independence day in the United States is July 4th. This is one of the most important national holidays of the year. It is the birthday of the United States.
The independence of the United State began in 1776. Until that time, the United States belong to England. In 1776, many Americans were unhappy. They did not like to pay high taxes to England. They did not like English laws, Americans wanted their country to be free and independent. They declared independence from England on July 4, 1776.
Independence Day is a patriotic holiday. Many families and businesses put up American flags to celebrate this day. Decorations at public ceremonies are red, white and blue -- the color of the flag. This holiday has two names: Independence Day and the Fourth of July.
Independence Day is a summer holiday. Almost everyone has the day off from work. Many families and friends spend the day at the beach or the park. Others have picnics and cookouts. Most cities and towns have parades, patriotic program, concerts, and, at night, beautiful fireworks.
